If you log in to your GoToMyPC account and see that one of your computers is 'Unavailable', then there is a connection problem at the host computer that is preventing you from establishing a session. You will need to physically go to this computer to resolve this issue.

Why is my computer 'unavailable' or offline?

Get your computer back online

Start and run the GoToMyPC app on a PC

  1. From your Windows Start menu, click AllPrograms and then GoToMyPC.
  2. If GoToMyPC is running, you will see the GoToMyPC icon in the computer system tray.

Ensure GoToMyPC is available while your computer is turned on

  1. Right-click the GoToMyPC icon in your computer system tray.
  2. Click Preferences.
  3. In the Host tab, make sure that the 'Automatically' and 'Disable sleep mode on host computer' boxes are checked.
  4. If you disable these preferences, you will need to ensure that GoToMyPC is running and that sleep mode has been disabled every time you leave the host computer unattended.

Manage sleep mode on a Mac

GoToMyPC is able to turn off sleep mode on your Mac, but putting your host Mac to sleep manually through the Apple menu icon or closing the lid can cause GoToMyPC to go offline. If you see the GoToMyPC icon in the top menu bar but your computer is still offline, reboot your host Mac. If the GoToMyPC software does not come back online, please contact Global Customer Support for assistance.

Remove the red X from the GoToMyPC icon in the system tray (Windows)

  1. Right-click the icon in the system tray and click Quit.
  2. Click Yes to confirm.
  3. Restart the GoToMyPC app.

GoToMyPC and GoToMyPC Pro users can create desktop shortcuts, which allows fast and easy access to their host Windows or Mac computer. This is convenient for users who frequently use the same client computer to connect to the same host computer. This shortcut will take you directly to the Enter Access Code window, bypassing the usual password login page. If you are a guest user, you cannot create a desktop shortcut. GoToMyPC Corporate users may need to contact their account administrator to enable this feature for them.

Create a desktop shortcut from a Windows client computer

  1. Connect to your Windows or Mac host computer.
  2. In the GoToMyPC Viewer, click File and then Create Short to <computer name>.
  3. Click Yes to continue.
  4. Enter your GoToMyPC account password, click Continue and then OK.
  5. On your client computer, notice a new GoToMyPC icon with the host computer's name!

Create a desktop shortcut from a Mac client computer

  1. Connect to your Windows or Mac host computer.

Create a web shortcut from a Windows or Mac client computer

  1. Log in at https://www.gotomypc.com/members/login.tmpl.
  2. Next to the desired host computer, click Options.
  3. Click Shortcut next to 'Create a Web short to <computer name>'.
